SD-04.2 Fire Brigade Key Safe
Secure and Controlled Access to Buildings in the Event of Fire
The SD-04.2 fire brigade key safe provides firefighters with fast and controlled access to the building key following activation of the fire detection and alarm system. This reduces the time required to enter the building and can help avoid forced entry and unnecessary damage during an emergency response.
The key safe can be installed in an external wall or façade and can also be integrated into a suitable freestanding column. Connected to the fire detection and alarm system, it forms part of a complete solution for organised fire brigade access to the building.
How Does It Work?
Under normal conditions, the building key remains securely protected inside the key safe and inaccessible to unauthorised persons.
Following activation of the fire alarm system, the outer door of the key safe can be released. Access to the inner compartment is additionally protected by a separate locking mechanism intended for fire brigade use. The building key becomes accessible only after the inner door has been opened.
This principle provides rapid access during a fire emergency while protecting the building key against unauthorised use under normal operating conditions.
Construction and Security Features
The SD-04.2 is designed for use in fire brigade access systems and is tested and certified in accordance with the applicable requirements, including VdS Guidelines 2105 and 2350.
Depending on the configuration and project requirements, various security and functional options are available:
- drilling protection
- different inner door configurations
- integrated interior lighting
- temperature-controlled heating
- optical indication of the building key locking status
- additional terminals for organised and simplified wiring
- installation in a façade or freestanding structure.
Integration with the Fire Detection System
A fire brigade key safe is not an isolated device but part of a system designed to provide controlled emergency access to a building. Its connection to the fire detection and alarm system, release logic, status monitoring and installation location should therefore be properly defined during system design.
